POS: QuickBooks Financial Software Installation OptionsRequirementsof Integration|FinancialExchange Overview
If you are integrating Point of Sale with QuickBooksfinancial software, there are three options for how the two programs canbe installed relative to one another to share data.
The three options are summarized here. Use the linksprovided on this page to get more information.
Option 1: QuickBooksfinancial software installed on the Point of Sale Server Workstation
This is thesimplest configuration.
This is theonly choice if you have only one computer.
On a network, the Point of Sale Server Workstation and QuickBooks would typically beinstalled in the office, with additional Point of Sale clientworkstations as the front "registers."
Use the instructionsfrom your QuickBooks financial software to install and set up your financialsoftware company file. Then use the ConnectionWizard from within Point of Sale to establish the connection betweenthe programs.

Option 2: QuickBooksfinancial software installed on both the Point of Sale Server Workstationand another Network Computer
This optioncan be used if you have only one Point of Sale workstation, which youneed to have at the front register but you prefer to use your financialsoftware at another computer (such as in the back office).
This configurationrequires a peer-to-peer network with mapped network drives.
You can installthis way even with a single license of your QuickBooks financial software.
Once configured, the copy of QuickBooks financial software on the Point of Sale Serverworkstation can be "silent", i.e., it does not ever have tobe opened, but it cannot be uninstalled.
AdditionalPoint of Sale or QuickBooks workstations could be added to the networkwith proper licensing.

Option 3: QuickBooksfinancial software installed only on another Network Computer
This option, called Remote Data Sharing (or RDS), is the most complex to set up anduse, but offers an alternative way to share data across your network.
RDS offersadditional security controls.
Uses RDS Serverand Client applications which must be installed in addition to Point ofSale and QuickBooks financial software.
