Backing up to a CD without Microsoft® Windows XP

You must be in single-user mode to do this.

If your computer is running an operating system other than Microsoft® Windows XP, the only way to back up your company file to a CD is by using third-party software designed for this purpose, such as Roxio™ Easy CD Creator®.

Most read-writable CD drives come with software designed for creating CDs. Before backing up to a recordable CD, be sure to install the software for your CD-R or CD-RW drive. file handling, . Backing up directly to the CD drive

Use these instructions if your CD software allows you to write directly to a CD. file handling, . Otherwise, see the instructions for "Manually backing up to a CD."

  1. Go to the File menu and click Back Up.

  2. Select the Disk option, click Browse, and then select your CD drive as the backup location.

  3. Click Save to save the backup location.

  4. Click OK in the QuickBooks Backup window to start the backup.

    The backup file will have the same name as your company file, but with a .qbb extension.

Manually backing up to a CD

Use these instructions if your CD software does not allow you to write directly to a CD, or if you encountered problems writing directly to a CD. file handling, . When you manually back up to a CD, you first save the backup to your hard disk and then copy the backup file to the CD.

  1. Go to the File menu and click Back Up.

  2. Click Browse.

  3. Navigate to a location on your hard disk that you will be able to find later.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Click OK in the QuickBooks Backup window to start the backup.

    The backup file will have the same name as your company file, but with a .qbb extension.

  6. Copy the backup file from your hard disk to the recordable CD.
