IBuEngHost.exe has stopped working

You receive a system message that IBuEngHost.exe has stopped working.

This issue is related to Intuit Data Protect.

How to fix it

This is fixed in the latest release of Intuit Data Protect.  Please see Verifying you have the latest update for Intuit Data Protect.

If updating to the latest release does not resolve the issue, please try the follwoing.

Right-click the IDP icon in System Tray and choose Exit Intuit Data Protect.

If you continue to receive the error, perform the following steps:  

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab, select the IntuitDataProtect.exe and IBuEngHost.exe one at a time, if they are running, and click the End Process button.
  3. Go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Intuit Data Protect and delete all files with the following file extensions:
    • .jan
    • .merp
    • .prem
  4. Clear the IDP cache:
    1. Go to C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Intuit
    2. Find the Intuit Data Protect folder and rename it.
  5. Click the Windows Start button, select Run, enter Services.msc, and press Enter.
    Note: If you do not see the Run command, try simultaneously pressing the Windows logo and R keys to open the Run window. Then enter Services.msc and press Enter.
    1. Highlight QBIDPService.exe.
    2. Right-click, then choose Start (or Restart
  6. Launch Intuit Data Protect and run an online backup.
