Unable to maximize or move the QuickBooks Desktop window

After starting QuickBooks Desktop and logging in, you encounter one of the following issues:

  • QuickBooks Desktop title bar is off the top of the screen and making it unmovable.
  • QuickBooks Desktop starts then minimizes to the Windows Task Bar (unable to maximize)

If you have not set up users in QuickBooks Desktop, the program may minimize immediately after the program starts.

Why this is happening
QuickBooks Desktop retains the status of the program window at the time the program was last closed. In this case, the last time QuickBooks Desktop was open, the program window was minimized to the Windows task bar. The user then right-clicked QuickBooks Desktop in the task bar and selected Close. As a result, QuickBooks Desktop now defaults to a minimized or unmovable status.
How to fix it

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.
