One of the following errors occur when you download a QuickBooks update:

  • Error 15214
  • Error 15215
  • Error 15217
  • Error 15218
  • Error 15221
  • Error 15222
  • Error 15224
  • Error 15223
  • Error 15225
  • Error 15226

Why this is happening

These errors may be caused by an incorrect configuration of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE).

To protect your computer and its contents, QuickBooks attempts to verify the digital signature on all files that are downloaded through the program. If QuickBooks is unable to verify the digital signature of a file that you are trying to download, one of these errors will occur.

For additional information on digital signatures, please see Description of Digital Certificates (Q195724) on the Microsoft Help and Support Web site.

How to fix it

To resolve this error, please download the latest version of Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Download Center (NOTE:  IE 10 is not recommended for versions of QuickBooks prior to 2013).

If that does not resolve the issue, you can try one of the solutions below.  You may need to follow all of them in order.

Solution 1: Perform a Clean Install of QuickBooks

Solution 2: Edit Internet Explorer options:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Choose Internet Options (gear icon in upper right).
  3. Choose Security then click on Trusted sites.
  4. Click the Sites button and add *.quickbooks.com and *.intuit.com to your trusted sites.

Solution 3: Update Microsoft Security Certificate

This issue may be cause by an expired Windows security certificate. Click here to download an updated certificate from Microsoft.

If you currently have the latest version of IE installed, or if you continue to receive the error after attempting the resolutions noted above, it is possible that one or more of your Microsoft Windows program files may be unstable. Intuit does not provide technical support for Windows products. Please contact or visit:

  • The Microsoft Help and Support Web site.
  • Your system or network administrator (if you have one).
  • The vendor from whom you purchased your computer.
  • A local computer consultant.

If these solutions don't resolve the issue, you can read discussions and post messages and questions relating to your issue on the Intuit QuickBooks Community site for free. You can contact an agent for additional guidance. Fees may apply.
