Prompt to download or open Start.vbd when you open Loan Manager or Cash Flow Projector

When you open Loan Manager or Cash Flow Projector you are prompted to download or open the Start.vbd file and the program does not open.

Why this is happening

Loan Manager and Cash Flow Projector are not compatible with Internet Explorer 9, 10 or 11.

  • QuickBooks requires Internet Explorer for certain processes.  Even if you have another browser (such as FireFox or Google Chrome) set as your default, you may still see this error if IE9, IE10 or IE11 is installed on your system.
  • This is an incompatibility with IE9, IE10 or IE11 not the Windows Operating System.
What you can try now

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Follow the steps in the Microsoft article Internet Explorer 9 fails to load VBD documents.

If the solution provided by Microsoft does not resolve the issue, try Solution 2.

Solution 2: Enable Compatibility Mode in Internet Explorer 9, 10  and 11.

  1. With Internet Explorer open, press the Alt key to show the menu bar.
  2. Choose Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
  3. Select Display all websites in Compatibility View, then click Close.

Note:  If the issue persists, you can try uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 or 10 and revert to IE 6, 7, or 8 to use Loan Manager or Cash Flow Projector.

Solution 3: Change Internet Explorer settings to their default

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Choose Tools > Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Record the existing levels, then select Default Level for Internet and Local Intranet Zones.
  5. Click the Advanced tab, select Restore Defaults, and then click OK.
  6. Open QuickBooks and run Loan Manager.
