Error (-6150, 0): An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to create, open or use the company file

The following error occurs when trying to create, open, or update a company file in QuickBooks:

An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to create, open or use the company file. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Intuit technical support and provide them with the following error codes: (-6150, 0)


Why this is happening

This error happens when the data file is being accessed or created on damaged media (for instance, restoring the file from a damaged flash drive).

How to fix it

Solution 1:  Move the file to the desktop and try to open the file.

  1. Find the data file using Windows Explorer.
  2. Right-click on the QuickBooks company file (.QBW extension) and select Copy.
  3. Go to your desktop. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select Paste.
  4. Try to open the file using QuickBooks program.

Solution 2:  Restore a backup from before the issue occured.
