  • The QuickBooks files stored in your TEMP folder on your computer may be damaged.
  • The MSXML component on your computer may be damaged.
How to fix it

Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Note: If you see this error while trying to email estimates, try solution 1. If not, start with solution 2.

Solution 1: Enable your company file's Estimate preference

  1. Go to the Edit menu and click Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences window, click Jobs & Estimates in the list on the left.
  3. Click the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Set the "Do you Create Estimates?" preference to Yes.
  5. Click OK.

Steps for QuickBooks Simple Start:

  1. Go to the File menu and click Preferences.
  2. Click Yes to indicate you create estimates.

Try emailing an estimate again.

If this does not resolve your issue, or if you are not emailing estimates, continue to Solution 2.

Solution 2: Delete temporary files

  1. Close QuickBooks
  2. Open your computer's TEMP folder:
    1. On your keyboard, press Windows + R to open the Run window.
    2. Enter %temp% and press Enter.
  3. Highlight all files by holding the CTRL key and pressing A.
  4. Press the Delete key to delete the files.
  5. Once the files have been deleted, reopen QuickBooks and try sending the form again.

If this does not resolve your issue, continue to solution 3.

Solution 3: Run the PDF Diagnostic Tool

  1. Download and run the PDF Diagnostic tool

Solution 4: Repair MSXML

  1. Select the best option for your type of installation:
  2. Install QuickBooks after the MSXML 4 installation is finished.
