When viewing, importing, or exporting changes from an Accountant's Copy file, you receive the following error:

QuickBooks is unable to display the accountant's changes, please contact Intuit technical support for more help.

How to fix it

Intuit recommends several solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1:   Update QuickBooks to the latest release.

Solution 2:   Delete temporary internet files from Internet Explorer.

Solution 3:   Edit account names in the Chart of Accounts and remove special characters.

  • Special characters include:
    • < (less than)
    • > (greater than)
    • & (ampersand)
    • ' (apostrophe)
    • " (quotation mark)

Solution 4: Uninstall IE9

Solution 5: Convert the transfer file again and re-enter your changes.

  1. Close the Accountant's Copy (.QBA) file in which the error occurred.
  2. Convert the Accountant's Copy transfer (.QBX) file to a new Accountant's Copy file.
Note: You may prefer to change the name or location of the new file.
  3. Re-enter your changes to the new Accountant's Copy.
  4. Export Accountant's Changes and send to the client.

Solution 6: Send a General Journal Entry (GJE) file back to the client. (Most effective if the majority of the changes were done by journal entries)

  1. Make sure both the accountant and the client are on a version that supports GJE File (2013 and higher).
  2. In the accountants copy, click Accountant menu > Send General Journal Entries.
  3. Set the Date Range to current date.
  4. Select all pertinent  journal entries.
  5. Create file and send to client.
  6. On the client's system, remove accountants restrictions.
  7. On the client's system, import general journal entry file.
  8. Any changes that were not made by a journal entry will have to be re-entered directly into client file.
