Printer setup window does not appear when trying to print a transaction

When selecting the File menu and selecting Printer Setup, the Printer Setup window does not open. It appears as though nothing is selected or QuickBooks freezes (hangs).

Why this is happening

 

 

There are several possible causes of this issue:

  • The Printer Setup window could be opening off screen.
  • The Intuit Internal Printer is selected as the default printer.
  • The Qbprint.qbp file is corrupted.
  • A QuickBooks program file is missing or corrupted.
How to fix it

 

 

 Intuit recommends more than one solution for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Rename the Qbprint file:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Follow the instructions in Renaming the Qbprint.qbp file.
  3. Open QuickBooks and open the Printer Setup window. If the Printer Setup window does not appear, proceed with the following steps.

Reset the location of the window:

  1. Press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard.
  2. Select the QuickBooks File menu and then select Printer Setup. This forces QuickBooks to open the window at its default location and its default size. If the Printer Setup window does not appear, proceed with the following steps.

Reset the default printer in Windows:

  1. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button, and click Settings > Printers and Faxes.
  2. From the Printers and Faxes dialog window, right click on a known working printer.
  3. Select Set as Default Printer.
  4. Close the Windows Printer and Faxes window.
  5. Open QuickBooks and open the Printer Setup window. If the Printer Setup window does not appear, proceed with the following steps.

Repair your QuickBooks installation:

  1. Run Reboot.bat to re-register QuickBooks .dll files.
  2. Refer to Repair a QuickBooks or QuickBooks Server installation to repair the QuickBooks program.
  3. Open QuickBooks and open the Printer Setup window. If the Printer Setup window does not appear, proceed with the following steps.

Reinstall QuickBooks:

  1. Refer to Performing a clean install or clean uninstall of QuickBooks to uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks.
  2. Open QuickBooks and open the Printer Setup window.
