Error: Internal Error 2908, when installing an update

When you try to install a QuickBooks update you see this error:

Why this is happening

The Microsoft .NET Framework is damaged. To resolve the issue, you must uninstall and reinstall the .NET Framework.

How to fix it

Solution: Uninstall and reinstall the .NET Framework

Important: These troubleshooting steps may help resolve your issue. They focus on the Windows operating system, which is not an Intuit product. Intuit recommends that you find the expert assistance that you need by consulting your computer's manufacturer or a Windows expert to work with these steps. If the difficulty persists after performing these steps, contact your computer's manufacturer or Microsoft.

  1. Uninstall the .NET Framework:
    1. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and choose Control Panel
    2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
    3. Scroll down and select Microsoft .NET framework, then click the Change/Remove button.
      Note: If you have multiple versions of .NET framework installed, remove all of them starting with the one at the bottom.
  2. Reinstall the .NET Framework:
    1. Insert your QuickBooks CD in the CD drive.
    2. Click the Start button and choose My Computer.
    3. Right-click the CD drive and choose Explore.
    4. Double-click the ThirdParty folder, and then:
      • QuickBooks 2012 and 2013: Double-click the DOTNET40 folder, and then double-click DOTNETFX40.exe.
      • QuickBooks 2010 and 2011: Double-click the DOTNET35 folder, and then double-click DOTNETFX35.exe.
      • QuickBooks 2008 and 2009: Double-click DOTNET20, and then double-click DOTNETFX20.exe.
      • QuickBooks 2006 and 2007: Double-click DOTNET11, and then double-click DOTNETFX.exe.
    5. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the framework.

Once you've reinstalled the framework, try to install the QuickBooks update again.
