When you update a company file from an earlier version of QuickBooks to the latest version, you see this error message:
Note: If you are receiving the error "QuickBooks could not open a file necessary to process tax forms..." copy your company file to another computer and perform the file update there. Then copy it back to the first computer.
Several conditions can cause this error:
Intuit recommends several possible solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.
If you still encounter the error when updating your company file, try solution 2.
If there are no unique characters in the company file and the error persists, go to solution 3
Copy your company file to your desktop.
Try opening or converting the file on your desktop
If you still see the error, try the next solution.
Run the QuickBooks File Doctor to add ports and exceptions to Windows and third party fire walls.
