Error 3371: Could not initialize license properties

When you register or open QuickBooks, you see one of these error messages:

  • Could not initialize license properties. Error 3371: QuickBooks could not load the license data. This may be caused by missing or damaged files.
  • Could not initialize license properties. [Error 3371, Status Code -11118] QuickBooks could not load the license data. This may be caused by missing or damaged files.
  • Could not initialize license properties. [Error: 3371, Status Code -1] QuickBooks could not load the license data. This may be caused by missing or damaged files.

Important: This issue can occur if your product is hosted by Right Networks and you access QuickBooks with WebConnect and then select to open the file without saving.  If you use QuickBooks Enterprise and your product is hosted by Right Networks, you must save the file and then import it.

How to fix it

You may need to re-install your software. Have your license number and product number for your version of QuickBooks ready.

An update to your anti-virus program may have identified a Virus in QuickBooks. This is usually a false positive and the QuickBooks file is not truly infected.

Try these steps in the order shown. If the first one fixes the problem, you do not need to try the other steps.

  1. Fix Microsoft .NET Framework, MSXML, and C++ issues using the QuickBooks Component Repair Tool
  2. Re-create damaged EntitlementDataStore.ecml
  3. Uninstall QuickBooks, download and run the QuickBooks Clean Install Utility, then reinstall QuickBooks

If these solutions don't resolve the issue, you can read discussions and post messages and questions relating to your issue on the Intuit QuickBooks Community site for free. You can contact an agent for additional guidance. Fees may apply.
