Change the currency symbol used in QuickBooks
QuickBooks uses the currency symbol specified in your Windows Control Panel. To change the symbol, you must change the Control Panel setting.
Detailed instructions
Note: QuickBooks versions 2008 and earlier do not support multiple currencies. If you switch from one currency symbol to another, only the currency symbol will change and exchange rates will not be calculated. For information on the multicurrency features of QuickBooks versions 2009 and later, refer to the QuickBooks Multicurrency Resource Center.
Change the currency symbol used in Windows
Windows 8
- On your keyboard, press Windows
and type Region.
- Click Settings.
- Click Region.
- Select the Formats tab
- Click the Format drop-down arrow and select the language that corresponds to the currency you want to use.
- Click the Additional Settings button.
- Click the Currency tab.
- Click the Currency Symbol drop-down arrow and select the appropriate symbol for your country or region, if it is not already shown.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
- Open QuickBooks.
Windows 7 or Vista
- Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel.
- Under Clock, Language, and Region, select Change keyboards and other input methods
- Select the Formats tab
- Click the Format drop-down arrow and select the language that corresponds to the currency you want to use.
- Click the Additional Settings button.
- Click the Currency tab.
- Click the Currency Symbol drop-down arrow and select the appropriate symbol for your country or region, if it is not already shown.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
- Open QuickBooks.
Windows XP
- Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel.
- Double-click Regional and Language Options.
- Click the Regional Options tab and, in the Standards and formats section of the window, select the language that corresponds to the currency you want to use.
- Click the Advanced tab, and in the Language for non-Unicode programs section of the window, select the same language you selected in step 3.
- Click the Regional Options tab and click the Customize button.
- Click the Currency tab.
- Click the Currency Symbol drop-down arrow and select the appropriate symbol for your country or region, if it is not already shown.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
- Open QuickBooks.
Important: Regional Settings are supported when set to English (United States), including the keyboard setting. Editing these settings to non-English (US) language may affect the following areas of QuickBooks:
- Payroll
- Merchant Services
- Multicurrency (2009 and later)
- Transactions
