Converting QuickBooks for Windows 2008 and earlier to QuickBooks for Mac 2010 or later

QuickBooks for Mac 2011 supports converting company files from QuickBooks for Windows 2009 and later. If the company file is from QuickBooks for Windows 2008 or earlier, We recommend that the customer to update the company file to QuickBooks for Windows 2010 or 2011 before converting to Mac.

Currently no QuickBooks for Windows trial is available online for customers. This KB will provide steps to get a trial the customer can use to help convert their company file to QuickBooks for Mac 2010 or later.

Detailed Instructions

Solution: Use QuickBooks for Windows 2010 trial to update company file to a supported version
Estimated time: 1 hour

Important: Before starting the steps listed below, make a backup of the QuickBooks file and run a verify to ensure the file is clean.

  1. Download QuickBooks for Windows 2010 Accountant Edition trial.
  2. Double-click the downloaded file from step 1 and follow the onscreen instructions to install.
  3. Open the company file with the QuickBooks for Windows 2010 trial.
  4. Choose File > Utilities > Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac.
  5. Open the file created in step 4 with QuickBooks for Mac 2011.
