Fix your company file or your network using the QuickBooks File Doctor

Double click the File Doctor icon on your desktop or go to Start > All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks File Doctor.

Click Next to begin installation.

Select I Agree to the license agreement.

The Disk Cost button will show you how much hard drive space will be occupied by the File Doctor program. Use the Browse button to install the program in a location of your choice.  Select Just Me if you want to limit the use of the program to yourself.  Click Next to continue.

Click Next to begin installation.

Installation is in progress.

Installation is complete.  Uncheck Launch QuickBooks File Doctor if you do not want to run the program now.  Otherwise, click Close to lauch the program.

1. Double-click the QuickBooks File Doctor icon on your desktop or Start > All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks File Doctor.
 



Click the blue ? to view the ReadMe File.

 
2. (Optional) Change the Advanced Settings if you have problems opening your file over a network or are having multi-user issues:
   • The company file is on another computer (Network Only Fix)

     1. Click the Advanced Settings button.
     2. Click to select QuickBooks is hosted on this computer (network connectivity only).
     3. or Click to select QuickBooks is hosted on another computer on the network (network connectivity only).
     4. Click Back.
     5. Browse to the location of your company file.
     6. Click the Diagnose File button.
     7. When the diagnosis is complete, attempt to open your file again over the network or in Multi-User mode to see if the issue has been corrected.
        Note: If the issue still persists, please check the results window to resolve network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor test results. 
   • Less common (usually when recommended by a support agent):

     • To fix a data sync error:
       1. Click the Advanced Settings button.
       2. Click to select the Force fix DataSync error option.
       3. Click to clear all other options.
       4. Click Back.
       5. Continue to step 3
     • To fix a 6130 error:
       1. Click the Advanced Settings button.
       2. Click to select the Force fix DataSync error option.
       3. Click to clear all other options.
       4. Click Back.
       5. Continue to step 3

     

3. Click Browse, navigate to your company file and click Open.

4. Click the Diagnose File button.
5. Enter the Admin password and click OK. (Leave this blank if you don't have one.)
6. Choose Yes or No in the Network Access window and click Next.
7. When the diagnosis is complete, follow the instructions provided.

Click the Open New File button to open the company file in QuickBooks.  Network issues the File Doctor was unable to correct (if any) are listed in red.  Click See how to fix these problems for manual solutions.

• You must be connected to the internet to upload the file for manual repair.
• Your company file must be smaller than 2GB to upload through this tool.
• You can resume the download while the tool is still open. However, if the tool is closed, the upload will start again.
• You must be logged in as Administrator to run network diagnosis. QuickBooks must also be in hosting mode.
• If Windows User Account Control is turned ON, the tool will be re-launched with elevated administrator privileges.
• Network Diagnose and Repair functionality may not work properly if multiple QuickBooks versions are installed on your computer.

• File Repair: QuickBooks does not need to be installed on your computer.
• Network diagnosis and repair: QuickBooks must be installed on the computer running File Doctor.
• Multi-user diagnosis and repair: QuickBooks Hosting must be turned on.
• QBFD Tool supports: Win 8, Win 7, Win Vista, Win XP SP3, WinXP SP2
• .NET frame work 2.0 (if is not installed on your system, it will be installed along with the diagnostic tool).
• User Account Control settings (UAC) – The network diagnosis only occurs if UAC is turned off. You should return UAC to its original settings when the tool is finished.
