Record purchases made with ATM cards, debit cards, PayPal, or EFT

You can use the Write Checks window in QuickBooks to record purchases made using debit cards or other forms of electronic payment.

In place of the check number, just enter a code that indicates the payment form, such as DB for debit card, to differentiate these transactions in the register from check payments.

Detailed Instructions

To record an electronic payment in QuickBooks:

  1. From the Banking menu, select Write Checks.
  2. Click to clear the Print Later checkbox.
  3. Enter one of the following codes in the No. field (or create your own):
    • ATM - ATM card
    • DB - Debit card
    • EFT - Electronic funds transfer
    • PP - PayPal account
  4. Enter the rest of the information as would for a normal check.
  5. Click Save & Close

To record an electronic payment in QuickBooks SimpleStart:

  1. On the left side of the task bar, from Money Out click New to open the Write Checks window. Enter your payment information.
  2. Click to clear the To be printed checkbox.
  3. Enter one of the following codes in the No. field (or create your own):
    • ATM - ATM card
    • DB - Debit card
    • EFT - Electronic funds transfer
    • PP - PayPal account
  4. Enter the rest of the information as would for a normal check.
  5. Click Save & Close.
