Updating QuickBooks program software

Periodically, updates to the QuickBooks software are available for download externally (by way of the quickbooks.com website) or internally through your software. These updates, also referred to as maintenance releases or patches, improve program functionality and fix known issues with the software.

Detailed Instructions

In-product update method:

  1. Click on Help on the top menu bar in QuickBooks (for QuickBooks 2005, select File instead), then select Update QuickBooks...
  2. Click on the Options tab, and be sure each item at the bottom has a checkmark next to it.
  3. Click then on the Update Now tab.
  4. Click on Get Updates. This may take a few minutes.
  5. When complete, close out of QuickBooks and then reopen the program to initiate the installation process of the updates in which you have just downloaded. This may take a few more minutes.

Manual update method:

  1. Navigate to QuickBooks Product Updates
  2. The version in which you are currently using should be displayed at the top on the screen. If not, click on the Select a Different Product button to select the version of QuickBooks you wish to update.
  3. Scroll down on the page to manual updates and click on the file qbwebpatch.exe after reading the instructions on how to install below it.
