Download and upgrade troubleshooting

One of the following errors displays when attempting to download a product using the Download Manager:

  • Persistent connectivity error
  • The server returned an error

These errors can occur if the download file is corrupt. In some cases, it might not be usable or can cause serious problems if you attempt to use it. Sometimes this is only a temporary situation, and if you resume the download by starting the Download Manager again, the situation is resolved.

If you see this message repeatedly, there might be a network configuration or connectivity issue that prevents the Download Manager from working correctly.

Detailed instructions

Use Alternate URL for download:

  1. Return to the page you used to start the download. If you no longer have that page open, refer to Downloading QuickBooks products from the Internet.
  2. Select your product and click Start Download.
  3. On the "Download for [your version]" page, click the link under step 4 that says: "If you have trouble using the Intuit Download Manager, click here."
  4. When prompted to run or save the QuickBooks file, save it to your desktop.
  5. After the download completes, double-click the file added to your desktop. The file name is QuickBooks[Edition][Year].exe.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the QuickBooks installation.

Note: Ensure that you do not have another Download Manager. If you do, open the My Downloads page in eStore and use the alternate (NON-Download manager) URL, or temporarily disable your Download Manager.

While the DLM uses port 80 and utilizes standard HTTP requests, it is still possible that you have security software that prevents the DLM from functioning. If so, open the My Downloads page in eStore and use the alternate (NON-Download manager) URL.

Use the alternate URL if you continue to receive an error.

Configure Internet Explorer, firewall, or settings:

  • You must configure Internet Explorer and your firewall to allow the Download Manager to contact the Internet. If you are using a proxy server, you will need to have your network administrator disable the use of the proxy server temporarily in Internet Explorer or change the settings of the proxy server and the firewall to allow the download manager through.
  • Ensure that you are running as an administrator. In Windows 8, 7 and Microsoft Vista, right-click the DLM.exe and choose Run as Administrator instead of double-clicking the icon.

If you are still unable to install QuickBooks, follow these steps:

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows + R to open the Run window.
  2. Enter %Temp% and press Enter.
  3. Locate the folder that says Premier (if installing QuickBooks Premier, for example).
  4. Double-click setup.exe to run the QuickBooks installation. This folder has the same contents as a QuickBooks installation CD. The entire QuickBooks folder could be copied to a disk for installation on multiple computers.

Note: In Windows 8, 7 and Windows Vista, this file is located at: C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Temp.
