Backup your company file in QuickBooks for Mac

This article describes how to make a backup of your company file in QuickBooks for Mac.

Detailed Instructions

QuickBooks for Mac 2012 and Prior

  1. Insert a CD or other removable media into the computer. You may see a disk icon appear on your desktop.

Note: If you are using Mac OS 9 and backing up to CD, first save the backup to your desktop and then copy it to the CD.

  1. Choose File > Backup.
  2. Select To A Disk (Mobile Me was discontinued by Apple and will display an error if selected)
  3. In the Where field, select the backup location.
  4. In the Save As field, enter a file name.
  5. Click Save.
Note: If you see Open rather than Save, click Cancel, then click the Backup icon again.

QuickBooks for Mac 2013 and later

  1.  Choose File > Backup.

Note: QuickBooks for Mac 2013 creates a .DMG file as a backup. Refer to this article for restoring this type of backup file.
