For the PIN pad to work, both Point of Sale and Windows must have it assigned to the same COM port. Follow these steps to be sure they match.
To see which port Windows assigned:
- Open Windows Device Manager:
- Click the Windows Start or Logo button, right-click Computer, and select Properties.
- Select Device Manager. (In Windows XP, click the Hardware tab and then select Device Manager.)
- Double-click Ports (COM & LPT).
- Double-click your PIN pad on the list.
- Click the Port Settings tab and click Advanced. Point of Sale defaults to COM5. If this port is being used by another device, note which COM number you see and follow the next steps to be sure Point of Sale matches.
To see which port Point of Sale assigned:
- In Point of Sale, choose File > Preferences > Workstation. (In Version 9 and earlier, choose Edit > Preferences > Workstation.)
- Select PIN pads and select Ingenico 3100.
- Ensure the Attached to Virtual COM port# matches what Windows displays in the Device Manager.
- Click Save.
