What is happening
When trying to backup or restore a QuickBooks company file using the QuickBooks Online Backup service, the following error displays:
LA2816: Internet DNS lookup failed for R2director.atbackup.com. . Check your internet connection and/or your internet security setting.
Why is this happening
This issue can occur if the Internet Service Provider (ISP) or firewall configuration settings are conflicting with QuickBooks Online Backup service. . It can also occur if the Internet connection is Dial Up and you are not currently connected. .
How to fix the problem
To resolve this issue, determine what is causing the conflict and then take the appropriate action. .
Detailed Instructions

Use the MS-DOS Ping command to test connectivity:

  1. Select the Microsoft Windows Start menu and select Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
  2. In the Command Prompt window, enter the following: ping r2redirector.atbackup.com.
  3. If unsuccessful, enter the following IP address: ping 66.77.178.52.

If the IP address displays Ping statistics but the text string does not, this indicates a conflict with the ISP on the system or with a network firewall.

The conflict may involve Port 16841:

  • On home systems, the ISP provider may have Port 16841 blocked. . Please contact your ISP provider to identify if the port is blocked by the ISP software.
  • On networked systems using firewall software, ensure that Port 16841 is open prior to installing QuickBooks Online Backup software.
