Data is missing after upgrading your file to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop

After upgrading your company file from a previous version of QuickBooks Desktop, you notice that the updated company file is missing financial information.

Why this is happening

Your company file may be damaged.

How to fix it
  1. Rename your current data in the newer version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In the older version of QuickBooks, restore the backup that was created prior to upgrading your file to the new version QuickBooks.
  3. Prepare your data file for upgrading.
  4. Check to see if the data is missing.
    • If the data is still missing, those transactions may have been entered in another copy of your file or they have been deleted. Restore older backups, look for duplicate copies of your data file, check the Audit Trail report for deleted transactions.
    • If the data is not missing, reupdate to the newer version of QuickBooks.
  5. If, after reupdating your data file, the data are missing, use standard data damage troubleshooting, to identify, delete and reenter the damaged transactions.
