Financial data is missing after upgrading a company file from a prior version of QuickBooks

After upgrading your company file from a previous version of QuickBooks, you notice that the updated company file is missing financial information.

Why this is happening

Your company file may have been damaged.

How to fix it
  1. Make sure you have both the new version of QuickBooks, and the prior version, installed on your computer.
  2. Try restoring your original file (before you upgraded) in the prior version of QuickBooks. Make sure your data is correct in the old version.
  3. Verify and Rebuild your original file.
    • If your data is accurate and you are not missing any data, continue to Step 4.
    • If you are still missing data after restoring your backup in the prior version of QuickBooks, then your data may have been corrupted before you made the backup originally. Please contact support.
  4. After you have verified that your data is not missing in the prior version, and you have successfully rebuilt your data in the prior version, you will now need to make a portable company file in the prior version. It may be necessary to re-sort the lists before creating the portable.
  5. Save the portable file to your Desktop.
  6. Restore that portable file in the new version of QuickBooks.
  7. Once your portable file is restored in the new version, make sure your data is correct and are not missing any data.
