Error code: -6190, -1005 or -6189, -1005 opening a company file in QuickBooks

QuickBooks was unable to open the company file on your computer. A possible reason for this may be that you don't have read/write permission for the files in the folder where the company file is saved. Obtain this permission and then try opening the file.  Error code: -6190,-1005


The error "-6190, -1005" occurs when trying to open a company file in an older version of QuickBooks than was previously used to open the file.  The file has been previously opened in a newer version of QuickBooks. 
How to fix it
  1. Determine the version the Company File was created in (Note: Only Windows XP has this functionality):
    1. Right click on the .qbw, .qbm or .qbb and select properties.
    2. Click on the QuickBooks Tab.
    3. Check for the version last Archived with or Opened With.
    4. If unable to determine version is showing or your operating system is not Windows XP, try opening  the company file in a newer version of QuickBooks.
