Fix error -6000 -80 with the QuickBooks File Doctor

If you're reading this article, it's probably because you're having trouble with QuickBooks, most likely at a particularly inconvenient time. We want to get you back up and running as quickly as possible.

This article can help you if:

  • You can't open your company file, or
  • You get a 6xxx error, or
  • You get an H202 error (error opening QuickBooks over a network or multi-user setup issues)

Note: For QuickBooks 2014 R5 and later, you may be prompted to run the internal (built-in) version of File Doctor. If so, please see the (Built-in) File Doctor for QuickBooks 2014 R5 and later article for more information.

Important:  After you run the File Doctor, please click here to provide feedback on how it worked for you.  Your feedback is valuable to us making further improvements!

How to use the QuickBooks File Doctor
  1. Important:  After you run the File Doctor, please click here to provide feedback on how it worked for you.  Your feedback is valuable to us making further improvements!

Important: If you already have a version of File Doctor on your computer, proceed with downloading and installing File Doctor from this article to ensure you have the latest release.

  1. Once the download is complete, double-click qbfd.exe and follow the on-screen instructions to install the QuickBooks File Doctor.
  2. Once the File Doctor is finished installing, it will automatically open. If not, double-click on the green File Doctor icon on your desktop.
    • Note: If you do not see it opening, look for a green wrench icon in your Windows taskbar.
  3. If you see a message that you need administrator rights to continue, click Yes.
  4. Select one of the following options:
o Both file damage and network connectivity - if you suspect your company file is damaged, or you see a 6xxx error when you try to open your company file (data file problems).
o Network connectivity only - if you are using QuickBooks in a multi-user setup and get an H202 error when you try to open your company file (network errors).
  5. If prompted, enter the Admin password for your company file, and then click Next.
  6. Choose one of the following options, if prompted to share your company file:
o Yes - if you are running File Doctor on the computer hosting the company file (your Server).
o No - if you are running File Doctor on a computer that is not hosting the company file (your Workstation).
