When Point of Sale ports are blocked by Windows Firewall, the following processes may be interrupted: - Electronic Funds Transfer - used with Credit Card transactions
- DataBase Server Manager operation
- Intuit Entitlement Service - used to verify product licensing
Print out a listing of Point of Sale ports, files and their locations so it is available as you configure your firewall.
To allow access to these critical ports in Windows XP Firewall:
- Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Run. Enter control in the Open field and click OK.
- Open the Security Center and click on Windows Firewall to open the properties window.
- Click the Exceptions tab and select Add Port.
- Using the Port Descriptions above, enter the port description first, followed by the port number. (Select TCP or UDP for the type of port you are entering. If a port is both TCP and UDP you will have to enter the port twice, once for TCP and one for UDP).
- Add the remaining ports to the exception list using Step 4.
- When completed, click Apply and click OK.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Point of Sale and proceed with program activities.
To allow access to these critical ports in Windows Vista Firewall:
- Click the Windows Vista Start button and select the Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Security Center and select the Windows Firewall to open the Properties window.
- Click Change Settings and click Continue in the User Account Control window.
- Select the Exceptions tab and click Add Port.
- Using Port Descriptions above, enter the port description first, followed by the port number. (Select TCP or UDP for the type of port you are entering. If a port is both TCP and UDP you will have to enter the port twice, once for TCP and one for UDP).
- Repeat step 4 until all the ports from the Port Listing have been added.
- When finished click Apply and click OK.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Point of Sale and proceed with program activities
