Determining the QuickBooks version last used to open a company file or created a company file backup
Overview

In most cases, the version of QuickBooks that you last used to open your company file is the same as the version of QuickBooks you are currently using. You can determine the version of QuickBooks you have by opening QuickBooks and reading the title bar at the top of the window.

Detailed Instructions

To check which QuickBooks version was last used to open your company file:

  1. Open QuickBooks and when you are asked to log in, click Cancel. The "No Company Open" screen appears.
  2. Click once on the name of the file to highlight it. Make a note of the location (file path) of the file, given at the bottom of the window. What if my file isn't listed here?
  3. Select the File menu and select
    • QuickBooks 2007 and later: select Open or Restore Company
    • QuickBooks 2006 and earlier: select Open Company.
  4. QuickBooks 2008 and 2007 only: Verify that Open a company file (.QBW or .QBA) is selected and click Next.
  5. Browse to the folder that contains your company file. How do I find my file?
  6. Right-click on the company file name for example, [companyname] and select Properties.
  7. In the Properties window, select the QuickBooks tab.
  8. Make a note of the QuickBooks version listed in the Last opened with field.
